Welcome to St. John's Kirkland Youth Mission Blog!

St. John's Episcopal Church is located in Kirkland, Washington. Over the summer, our youth group will participate in a ten-day mission trip to Eleuthera, Bahamas. Eleuthera is long and thin island in the Bahamas that lies about 30 miles east of Nassau. The first settlers gave the island its current name, which means “freedom” in Greek. Today, Eleuthera's economy consists mostly of fishing, boating, and tourism. Families in the Bahamas have an average yearly income of $1,500. While the Bahamas has a reputation as a tourist destination with luxury resorts, we will be on a small rural island that is reminiscent of towns in Central America or the Caribbean.

Our group will partner with the existing social outreach ministry of local churches to paint, clean, repair houses, and most importantly build relationships with families in Eleuthera. Please follow along on our journey as we prepare for this meaningful experience.

We look forward to sharing more about our adventure with you, join us!
